April 22nd. oil and acrylic on canvas. 20 x 17"For all West Virginia artists, it's time for the WV Juried Exhibition. Entries are due by July 18th, 2011. I am not sure what two pieces I will enter (opinions, anyone?), but I am going to try my luck again this year. Stifel Fine Arts Center at Oglebay Institute in Wheeling, WV is hosting the exhibit this year. Here is the Prospectus and Artist Register Form.

New Painting and Upcoming Opportunities
Above is a new work, titled April 12th, (9 x 12") done with oil and acrylic. I'm developing a growing interest in using the acrylic paint as a nice way to begin to explore gesture in a piece and then continuing with oil paint. I'm really enjoying the combination and can see this approach becoming a mainstay in my work - the opportunities seem endless. Also, here are some upcoming opportunities through the West Virginia State Museum. They are hosting 4 separate Juried Exhibits named "Inspired: A West Virginia Series of Juried Exhibitions". If interested, see here for the application: http://www.wvculture.org/museum/images/application.pdf

"Emerging Artists" @ State Museum
Usually I try not to put too much emphasis on getting or not getting into a juried exhibit. After all, it's only one person's opinion of your work. But I have to say - I'm really thrilled to have gotten into the Emerging Artists exhibition at the newly renovated State Museum in Charleston, WV. (For renovation pics see here -> http://www.wvculture.org/museum/renovate.html ) I saw the "Congratulations" printed on my letter and immediately began jumping around. I have never shown work in a museum - it really does feel great!
It will be the first show at the new Commissioner's Gallery. The reception is Wednesday, July 1, 2009 but I have the day job to work, so I might not be able to make it down to Charleston, as much as I would like to. The show was juried by painter Allison Leigh Smith of Scottsdale, Arizona. For more info about Allison see here: http://www.allisonleighsmith.com/news/index.html
Thanks, Allison!
